Emissions and GREENGUARD
Emissions and GREENGUARD
Formica Group has taken steps to ensure that its products promote air quality in indoor environments.
Formica® Laminate (ColorCore®2, Compact, Formica Envision™, Fire Rated, Cabinet Liners, Backers), Everform™ Solid Surface, DecoMetal® Metal Laminates and Formica® Markerboard products meet all GREENGUARD & GREENGUARD Gold requirements for indoor air quality.
According to the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), the most effective way to reduce indoor air pollution is to reduce or eliminate harmful chemical emissions. Formica Corporation takes pride in meeting strict emissions limits of the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute and in achieving GREENGUARD Certification for indoor Air Quality for Formica® Laminates and Everform™ Solid Surface.
Product emissions defined
Volatile organic compounds (VOC) are pollutants that are emitted as gases from certain solids or liquids. VOCs include a variety of chemicals, some of which may have short- and long-term adverse health effects. Concentrations of many VOCs are consistently higher indoors than they may be outdoors.
What is GREENGUARD?
The GREENGUARD Environmental Institute (GEI) Certification program helps manufacturers create, and buyers identify, products and materials that have low chemical emissions, improving the quality of air in which the products are used. The standards establish certification procedures including test methods, allowable emission levels, product sample collection, testing, as well as program application processes, toxicity limits and acceptance.
The GREENGUARD certification procedure identifies interior products and materials with low chemical and particle emissions. Being GREENGUARD certified provides assurance to consumers that products designed for use indoors meet strict chemical emissions limits. Importantly, GREENGUARD certification supports sustainability claims made by manufacturers by backing them with scientific data from an unbiased third-party organization.
Formica® Brand products, emissions and GREENGUARD
As one of our core sustainable strategies, we are committed to the manufacture of products that contribute to healthier indoor environments. Furniture and furnishings must be GREENGUARD Certified or meet GREENGUARD emission levels to obtain LEED credits for low emitting materials and furnishings. Formica® Laminates and Everform™ Solid Surface can contribute to achieving LEED credits for low-emitting materials.
The following products meet all GREENGUARD & GREENGUARD Gold standards for Indoor Air Quality:
Formica® Laminate (ColorCore®2, Compact, Formica Envision™, Fire Rated, Cabinet Liners, Backers)
